When the bottle or can is nearing the end, you occasionally notice that some sediment has formed at the bottom of the pumpkin seed oil. If so, you are a lucky man (or woman) - nothing better can happen to you!
This set consists of floating particles of the pumpkin seed, which is pressed from the pumpkin seeds and sinks to the bottom in the pumpkin seed oil. The sediment is extremely valuable. Many chefs know the actual value of the sediments in pumpkin seed oil and process it in their kitchen, by stirring it into a delicious pumpkin seed oil pesto.
Pumpkin seed oil is a natural product and is subject to natural variations. Any sediment or cloudiness is natural and therefore normal.
Our pumpkin seed oil is unfiltered. Nevertheless, there is usually no or only little sediment in our oil because, between pressing and bottling, some time passes, in which the suspended solids in the barrel can settle. After this, we bottle from the barrel only to just above the sediment. The sediments we work into pumpkin specialties, such as pumpkin seed pesto.
Sometimes, however, the suspended solids find their way into the can/bottle if the filling is not done through the tap but utilizing suction. In these cases, it is more difficult to detect the boundary to the sediment than by tap filling.
In any case, the presence of sediment in pumpkin seed oil is not a defect, but on the contrary, it indicates the freshness of the product.
